BOU @ EOU2013UK
EUROPEAN ORNITHOLOGISTS’ UNION
9th Conference | 27 – 31 August 2013
As well as being one of the co-hosts and organisers for the 9th European Ornithologists’ Conference – EOU2013UK – held at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, we also had an active presence at the conference including two key elements for students and early-career researchers.
BOU/Swarovski Optik best student and early-career researcher presentations
The BOU teamed up with Swarovski Optik to provide awards for the best oral and poster presentations by students and early-career researchers.
Eighteen oral presentations were given by students and early-career researchers. As expected, the standard was high and our judging panel had a hard time selecting an overall winner.
Over 40 posters were presented by students and early-career researchers. Although the overall standard was very high, the winning poster was considered to be outstanding and a clear winner for content, design and interactiveness (the poster contained a tablet from which you listened to different bird songs).

BOU/BTO early-career researcher journal publishing workshop
Over 50 early-career researchers attended the workshop. Debbie Wright (Wiley Blackwell) opened the workshop with a short presentation on preparing and submitting a manuscript and our panel of editors, Will Cresswell (Bird Study), Paul Donald (IBIS), Raymond Klaassen (Ardea), Jan-Ake Nillson (Journal of Avian Biology) and Johan Nilsson (Journal of Avian Biology), fielded a barrage of questions from where to submit to what to submit.
EOU2013UK was organised and hosted on behalf of the EOU by the BOU, BTO, EGI, RSPB and University of East Anglia.
