Annual Spring Conference venue – Nottingham

The conference is held at the Humanities Building  – part of the University Park Campus, Nottingham – with on campus accommodation provided for conference residents.

Travelling to the University Park Campus, Nottingham
The University of Nottingham is centrally placed in England and is easy to get to by road, rail and air.

By car
The university lies just to the east of the M1 motorway (Junction 26). See here for detailed directions. Enter the campus via the West Entrance (see the campus map).

Parking on University Park Campus, Nottingham
Download your parking permit for University Park Campus. Car parks marked on the map (several within 250m of the Humanities building).

By rail, bus and tram
Nottingham is well connected to London and other parts of the UK by rail and national bus services. A direct tram service operates between Nottingham railway station and the university.   See here for university travel information page.

By air
East Midlands airport is the nearest to the university. See here for details and connections to the university.

Check-in for your conference and accommodation
On arrival please register for the conference in the Humanities Building foyer. The conference desk will be open:
Tuesday, 1700 – 2200 h
Wednesday, 0830 – 2000 h
Thursday, 0830 – 1600 h

You will be directed to the nearly accommodation in Cavendish to check-in to your room. There is a member of staff available 0800 – 0000 h each day to assist with check-in and queries. Outside these times Campus Security can be called to check-in late arrivals on +44 (0) 115 951 3013.

Accommodation at University Park Campus, Nottingham
If you have booked as a Conference Resident you will stay in on campus student accommodation. Rooms are around two minutes walk from the conference venue. Each room has the following:

  • single bed
  • private bathroom
  • towels and toiletries
  • tea and coffee making facilities
  • mini fridge
  • complimentary wi-fi
  • complimentary use of swimming pool and fitness suite at the David Ross Sports Village

There are also pantries and laundry facilities in the halls.

Arriving late on Tuesday, 27 March
Conference registration opens at 5pm on the Tuesday in the Humanities building, with dinner served between 7-8pm in Cavendish Hall. But don’t worry if you arrive late: Between 8pm-10pm – sorry, you will miss dinner but the conference registration desk will remain open in Humanities building up to 10.00pm. You can collect your room key as detailed above.

Check-out and room key return
You must vacate your room by 10.00am on the morning of your departure. There will be a room available to leave luggage – ask at the BOU conference desk.

Please return your room key to the Cavendish Hall reception, the key drop box near the entrance of the accommodation block or to the BOU conference desk. Lost keys or keys not returned will be charged for.

Are meals included?
Conference Residents have all their meals included in the price they have paid (as detailed on the booking page and your delegate booking confirmation from the BOU Office. Non-residents (i.e. those who have not booked accommodation as part of their conference attendance) will have the meals they have paid for detailed on their booking confirmation. See delegate information letter and the event programme for timings.

  • Breakfast served in the Cavendish Hall
  • Morning and afternoon teas and coffees will be served in the Humanities Building
  • Lunch served in the Cavendish Hall
  • Dinner served in the Cavendish Hall

The Portland Building has the following:

  • bank
  • food court
  • Student Union Shop
